About Pokékipe
Pokékipe turns raw Smogon statistics into interactive analytics so every competitive Pokémon player — from ladder grinder to VGC regional competitor — can make data-driven decisions.
What is Pokékipe?
Pokékipe is a free analytics platform dedicated to competitive Pokémon. Every month, Smogon publishes raw usage statistics generated from millions of Pokémon Showdown battles. Pokékipe ingests that data, enriches it, and exposes it through interactive dashboards, Pokémon profiles, team analysis tools and guides.
Think of Pokékipe as the OP.GG of competitive Pokémon: instead of League of Legends champion win rates, you get Pokémon usage rates, top sets, checks & counters, matchup scores and month-over-month meta movement for every major Smogon and VGC format.
Our mission
Competitive Pokémon has some of the richest public data in esports, but it lives in dense text files that most players never read. Our mission is to make that data visual, comparable and actionable — without locking anything behind a paywall.
Independence & transparency
Pokékipe is an independent project. It is not affiliated with Smogon, The Pokémon Company, Nintendo, Game Freak or Creatures Inc. We use Smogon's public data in accordance with its free availability and credit the source on every page.
All of our calculation methods are documented on the Data & Methodology page. If you spot an anomaly, we want to hear about it. Data & Methodology.
Where does the data come from?
Every usage number on Pokékipe comes from Smogon's monthly public statistics, which are automatically generated from rated battles on Pokémon Showdown. Competitive timeline events (suspect tests, Viability Rankings, tournaments, VGC regulation changes) are scraped from Smogon forums, Limitless and official VGC sources. Pokémon Champions community tournaments are pulled from the public Limitless API.
How often is data updated?
Usage data is refreshed monthly, in sync with Smogon's publication schedule. Smogon releases the previous month's stats around the 1st of each month, and Pokékipe automatically ingests them within 24 to 48 hours. Pokémon Champions community tournaments and live VGC standings refresh on faster cycles so the timeline stays current between monthly drops.
Monthly Smogon update cycle
- Smogon publishes the previous month's stats (around the 1st)
- Pokékipe's pipeline detects the new files automatically
- Ingestion, delta calculation, ranking and format enrichment
- Live on the site (24–48h after Smogon)
Which formats are covered?
Pokékipe covers every format for which Smogon publishes statistics. Priority formats are ingested first and receive the most analytical depth:
Generation 9
OU, Ubers, UU, RU, NU, PU, Monotype, Doubles OU, Little Cup, National Dex
VGC & Pokémon Champions
Current Scarlet & Violet VGC regulation, historical regulations, plus Pokémon Champions community tournaments (Reg M-A)
Generation 8
OU, Ubers, UU, RU, NU, PU, Doubles OU and supporting tiers (data preserved, no longer the active focus)
Older generations
Gen 7 and earlier — historical Smogon data is preserved for archival reference whenever Smogon still publishes it
Who is behind Pokékipe?
Pokékipe is built and maintained by a small independent team that combines VGC and Smogon OU experience with data engineering and frontend work. We play the same formats we ship, which keeps the product honest.
We are not sponsored by any tournament organiser or content creator. The project is funded by its maintainers and stays free for the community.
